bu zhong yi qi tang 補中益氣 湯  (in English and Chinese 中英文)

Name of Formula: bu zhong yi qi tang (Nei Wai Shang Bian Huo Lun)

 

Prescription:

huang qi 12 g, gan cao 6 g, ren shen 6 g, dang gui 3 g, chen pi 6 g,

sheng ma 3 g, chai hu 6 g, bai zhu 9 g.

 

Boil with water or make into pill form with refined honey.

Application: For maintenance of digestive system, and to improve yang and qi.

 

Clinical observation:

Fever, sweating, thirst, preference of hot drink, headache, chills, laziness in carrying conversation, lack of appetite, feeling of pain,   lack of strength, and heaviness  in the limbs, laziness, fondness of lying down, tongue with pale and soft appearance, weakness and large waves in pulse.

This formula can be used for the following symptoms: rectum prolapse,  uterus prolapse, chronic diarrhea, chronic malaria, stomach prolapse, kidney prolapse, prolapse of eyelids, neurasthenia, myasthenia gravis, hypotension, primary hypertension, and low immune system that are caused by qi deficiency.

Recent clinical applications include: chronic hepatitis, ulcers of stomach and intestine, chronic kidney inflammation, kidney syndrome, chronic bleeding, anemia, heart problem, neurasthenia, dizziness, chronic diarrhea, loss of hair, eyesight tiredness, impotence, premature ejaculation, rhinitis, habitual miscarriage, hemorrhoid, protein in urine, instant sweating, chronic bronchitis, low sperm count, neuralgia, asthma, old age osteoporosis, atrophic inflammation of vagina, vagina discharge in old women, genetic motor nerve incoordination, diabetes, complement use with western drug for cancer therapy, and rehabilitative maintenance after surgery.

Note: this formula can be used in qi deficient and blood deficient type of hypertension.

It cannot be used in liver yang type of hypertension

 

Source of formula: “Nei Wai Shang Bian Huo Lun by Li DongYuan (1180-1252 A.D.)

Formulations related to shi quan da bu tang (in Japanese:Juzen-taiho-to): bu zhong yi qi tang (in Japanese Hochu-ekki-to) and ren shen yang rong tang (in Japanese Ninjin-yoei-to) by Y. Komatsu. The author summarizes traditional tonic formulae related to the shi quan da bu tang (Juzen-taiho-to). Clinical effectiveness in terms of traditional and modern medicines is discussed. It is of interest that bu zhong yi qi tang (Hochu-ekki-to) is useful for treating male impotence. [1]

組成﹕

黃 耆 12 克 , 甘 草 6克 , 人 參 6克 , 當 歸 3克 , 陳 皮 6克 , 升 麻 3克 , 柴 胡 6克 , 白 朮 9克 。

 

用 法 ﹕  水 煎 服 , 或 蜜 丸 服 。

功 效 ﹕  調 補 脾 胃 , 升 陽 益 氣 。

辨 証 ﹕身 熱 有 汗 , 渴 好 熱 飲 , 頭 痛 惡 寒 , 少 氣 懶 言 , 飲 食 無 味 ,四 肢 酸 重無 力 ,疼 痛 , 怠 惰 好臥 ,  舌嫩 色 淡 ,脈 虛 大 。氣 虛 下 陷 引 起 的 脫 肛 , 子 宮下 垂 ,  久痢 或久虐 ,胃 下 垂 , 腎 下 垂 ,  眼 皮 下 垂 , 神 經 衰 弱 ,重 症 肌 無 力 ,血 壓 過 低 , 免 疫 力 低, 都可 用此方。

若 加 枳 殼 枳 實 , 效 果 更 好 , 能 使 內 臟 平 滑 肌 收 縮 有 力 ,張 力 增 強 。

 

近 代 臨 床 應 用 包 括 ﹕ 慢 性 肝 炎 , 腸 胃 潰 陽 , 慢 性 腎炎 , 腎 病 綜 合 病 , 慢 性 出 血 , 貧 血 , 心 臟 病 , 神 經 衰 弱,

眩 暈 , 慢 性 腹 瀉 , 脫 髮 , 視 力 疲 勞 ,陽 萎 早 泄 ,鼻 炎,習 慣 性 流 產 , 痔 瘡 , 乳 糜 尿 , 自 汗﹐ 慢 性 氣 管炎 ,盜 汗 ,精 子 缺 乏 症 ,多 發 性 神 經 炎 ,哮 喘,老 年 性 骨 質 疏 鬆 ,萎 縮 性 外 陰 炎 , 老 年 性 赤 白 帶 , 遺 傳 性 小 腦性 共 濟 失調 ,糖 尿 病 ,配 合 西 藥 治 癌 , 外 科 手 術 後 調 理 。可 用 於氣 虛 型 的血壓高。
