Gansu, Sichuan, yunnan, Guizhou, Hubei provinces of China.

Properties (characteristics):

性味:

bitter, cold slightly toxic

苦,寒,有小毒。

bladder, liver, small intestine, stomach

膀胱,肝,小腸,胃

Actions & Indications:

功用主治:

promote qi flow,  rid of dampness-heat, clear liver fire, rid of pain, promote urination, regulates qi, kills parasites.

Also used externally for fungus infections of scalp.

ku lian pi should be cooked longer than other herbs in the formula, because the active ingredients are more difficult to dissolve in water.

除濕熱,清肝火,止痛,利小便,殺蟲。治熱厥心痛,協痛,疝痛,蟲積腹痛。
有效成分難溶於水所以與一般藥同入湯劑時,需先煎。

  3. chuan lian zi with ye ju hua for treatment of cirrhosis of the liver

  4. inhibits fungi, like Trichophyton, Candida albicans , Cryptococcosis

  • 3. inflammation of the stomach 胃炎

  • 4. inlfammation of the gall bladder 胆囊炎

  • 5.round worms in the gall bladder and bile duct 胆囊,輸膽管蛔虫

  • 6. diarrhea 腹瀉

  • 7. mastitis 乳腺炎

  • 8. mastic tumors 乳腺癌

  • 9. chronic inflammation of pelvic area 慢性盆腔炎

  • 10. appendicitis 盲腸炎

  • 11. contraction of testes into the cavities 睾丸縮入腹腔

  • 12. inflammation of the testes 睾丸發炎

  • 13. pain in the testes 睾丸痛

  • 14. fungus of the scalp (external use) 頭皮廯(外用)

  • 15. frost bites 凍傷

Cautions:

注意﹕

The effective dosage is very close to toxic dosage.  Five or six pieces of fruit can cause death. Children taking 0.3~0.4 g had experience toxic reactions.  2~4 g had caused death.

川楝子有效劑量接近中毒的劑量。五﹐六顆川楝子可為致死劑量。小兒服 0.3~0.4 克 曾經有中毒記錄。 2~4 克 曾經有致死記錄。

 

Note: chuan lian zi means lian zi produced in Sichuan province of China. Li Shi Zhen mentioned in his works that lian zi produced in Sichuan are the best. So all lian zi sold in the Chinese herb stores are called chuan lian zi. Ku lian zi literally means bitter lian zi.
