| Medical functions: 藥理﹕ | 1. 利尿：
玉米鬚在服藥後6小時內，使尿量與尿中氯化物均增加30%以上。玉米鬚與咖啡因並用，有協同作用。
2. 降壓：
玉米鬚煎劑，靜注具明顯而持久的降壓作用，重復給藥，仍出現降壓作用。
3. 對心臟的作用：
玉米鬚煎劑，對蟾蜍離體心臟，小量略呈興奮作用，人劑量則呈抑制作用。對在位兔心無明顯作用。
4. 利膽：
玉米鬚促進膽汁分泌，減少膽紅素的含量，降低膽汁的粘稠性。
5. 抗腫瘤：
玉米莖，葉和玉米心中含多糖等成分，腹腔注射對小鼠艾氏腹水癌和肉瘤180有效。
6. 其他作用：
玉米鬚尚有降血糖，止血，促進傷口愈合，局部輕度止痛，抗炎等作用。
7. 毒性：
毒性很小，對兔致死量，靜注為250mg/kg。利尿有效劑量為1.5mg/kg，故安全範圍大，對心臟，呼吸等無影響。臨床使用甚為安全，玉米各種制劑 ，口服幾無毒性。

Toxicity & Cautions: 毒素與禁忌﹕ | Those with pixu (spleen deficient) with yeast infection should not eat corn because of high sugar content. Corn that is moldy can contain large amount of Aspergillus flavus which can produce a toxin, Aflatoxin and is toxic to the liver and is carcinogenic. Do not consume moldy corn. 因為含糖份高， 脾虛有熱忌吃玉蜀黍(穎果)。 霉變 的玉米(變色，破碎)可能是已經發酵而產生大量黃麴毒素。黃麴毒素是一種對肝臟毒性極大的致癌物質。故霉變了 的玉米不可吃。 |
